A Message to Members: Calm, Clarity and Why It Matters

Over the past 24 hours we have seen a surge in comments, questions and strong emotions following renewed discussion about Frimley Fuel Allotments and alleged proposals affecting the land.

That reaction is understandable. People are worried, frustrated and anxious about the future of a green space that many of us use regularly and value deeply. However, we want to be clear about the purpose of this group and how we move forward constructively.

First, a reminder: this action group exists to protect and preserve Frimley Fuel Allotments — not to target individuals. Personal attacks, accusations of bad faith, or defamatory statements about elected officials or charity trustees do not help our cause and risk undermining it in the long term. Strong opinions are welcome; abuse and slander are not.

At the same time, it is important to acknowledge why tensions are running high.

Many members have raised legitimate questions about the scale and nature of any potential development, with some concerned that discussion is being framed as “only” a hospital or “only” part of the land. Others have pointed to past planning references and documentation suggesting that Frimley Fuel Allotments has previously been identified as capable of supporting significant development, including housing. This has led to fears that the issue goes beyond a single proposal and could affect the majority of the land.

Infrastructure concerns have also featured heavily. Members have cited existing pressure on roads, schools, GP surgeries, air quality and local services, drawing on experiences from previous developments in the area where supporting infrastructure did not keep pace with growth.

There has also been robust discussion about the role of the Frimley Fuel Allotments charity and its trustees. Some members have rightly noted that trustees are volunteers, bound by Charity Commission rules, and have historically overseen grants to people in need. Others have questioned why land disposal would be necessary if the charity already holds reserves and benefits from long-term income arrangements, including the lease of Pine Ridge Golf Course.

What has united many of these comments — regardless of viewpoint — is concern about a lack of transparency. Silence, or statements that neither confirm nor deny speculation, do not reduce anxiety. They increase it. Uncertainty creates space for rumour, frustration and anger to grow.

As a group, we believe the way forward is clear:

  • Focus on facts
  • Demand transparency
  • Maintain credibility
  • Protect the land for future generations

We can challenge proposals, question decisions and call for accountability without resorting to personal attacks. Doing so strengthens our position, not weakens it.

We ask all members to keep discussions respectful, evidence-based and aligned with the purpose of this group: the preservation of Frimley Fuel Allotments as green space. Moderation will continue where necessary to ensure the group remains a constructive and safe place for discussion.

This issue matters too much to allow division or hostility to distract from what is at stake. Calm, clarity and unity are our strongest tools.
